Recruitment - Formal Recruitment

Alpha Phi is excited for our Formal Recruitment experience at Alabama! We participate fully in the first round of recruitment, holding an Open House hosted by collegiate members from nearby chapters. These women are able to impart unique insight about what it means to be an Alpha Phi on their campus, and will give you more information about what it will mean for you as a new member of Alpha Phi at Alabama.

What to Expect

The formal recruitment process at the University of Alabama is an exciting opportunity to explore sorority life and find your perfect chapter match. As a potential new member, you will visit multiple chapter houses over several days, participating in conversations, activities, and presentations that showcase what each sorority has to offer.

At Alpha Phi, we pride ourselves on creating a warm and welcoming environment during every round of recruitment. Our members are eager to share their experiences and help you understand the unique benefits of joining our sisterhood. From our commitment to women's heart health to our focus on academic excellence, there is so much to learn about what makes Alpha Phi special.

The Recruitment Timeline

Formal recruitment at the University of Alabama typically takes place during the first week of the fall semester. The process consists of multiple rounds that progressively narrow your choices as you and the chapters mutually select each other.

The first round involves visiting all participating chapters for brief introductions. Subsequent rounds allow for more in-depth conversations and a closer look at chapter values, philanthropy, and culture. The final round, known as Preference Night, is an intimate event where chapters share their most meaningful traditions with potential new members.

After Preference Night, potential new members submit their final rankings, and the matching process determines which chapter extends a bid. Bid Day is a celebration like no other, where new members run to their chapters and are welcomed with open arms by their new sisters.

How to Prepare

Preparing for formal recruitment involves several important steps. First, register with the University of Alabama Panhellenic Council to participate in the recruitment process. Next, gather your alumnae recommendations, as many chapters, including Alpha Phi, require them.

Take time to research the sororities on campus and think about what values and qualities are most important to you in a chapter. Come to recruitment with an open mind, ready to meet new people and explore different organizations. Most importantly, be yourself. Authenticity is the key to finding the chapter where you truly belong.
