Recruitment - Recommendations

Alpha Phi requires each potential new member to furnish an alumnae recommendation for consideration of membership. Alumnae may complete this recommendation by submitting the appropriate reference forms.

Understanding the Recommendation Process

The alumnae recommendation is an important part of the Alpha Phi recruitment process. It provides our chapter with insight into a potential new member's character, achievements, and compatibility with our values. Recommendations are written by Alpha Phi alumnae who can personally vouch for the candidate and speak to her qualities as a potential member.

This tradition reflects the strong connection between our alumnae and collegiate members. It ensures that our chapter continues to attract women who embody the ideals of Alpha Phi and who will contribute positively to our sisterhood and the broader campus community.

What to Include in Your Recommendation Package

When requesting a recommendation, it is helpful to provide the recommending alumna with comprehensive information about yourself. This typically includes a current resume or activity sheet, a recent photograph, your academic transcript or GPA, and a brief personal statement about why you are interested in joining Alpha Phi.

Including details about your community service, extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and personal interests will help the alumna write a thorough and compelling recommendation. The more she knows about you, the better she can represent your potential as an Alpha Phi member.

How to Find a Recommending Alumna

If you do not already know an Alpha Phi alumna, there are several avenues to explore. Start by asking family members, family friends, teachers, and mentors if they have any connections to Alpha Phi. You may be surprised by how many people in your network have ties to the organization.

Local Alpha Phi alumnae chapters are another excellent resource. These chapters are often eager to support potential new members and can connect you with an alumna who is willing to write a recommendation. You can also reach out to our collegiate chapter directly, and we will do our best to help facilitate the process.

Submission and Deadlines

We recommend submitting your recommendation materials well in advance of formal recruitment. Starting the process during the spring or summer before fall recruitment gives everyone involved ample time to prepare thorough and thoughtful materials.

Completed recommendation forms should be submitted through the appropriate channels as indicated by our chapter and the Alpha Phi international organization. If you have questions about the submission process or deadlines, please do not hesitate to contact our chapter for guidance.
